10 Things You Should Do To Save Gas

Everyone is talking about the price of gas these days. Grass root groups are popping up all over in an effort to fight the exponential rise of gas prices. Others have turned to developing and learning new driving techniques (some not so safe) that save gas. This practice is highly controversial and dangerous. They are not recommended.

Here are 10 legal and safe tips to help you save gas, save money and reduce your carbon footprint:

  1. Only Go The Speed Limit

  2. The faster you go the more the gas you use. The faster you push down on that gas pedal the more energy it takes to get up to the desired speed. Instead of flooring it, build up gradually instead.

  3. Inflate Your Tires To The Right Air Pressure

  4. Experts tell us that under or over inflated tires are not only dangerous but cause uneven tire wear and makes the vehicle less energy efficient. Check your vehicle's auto manual for the optimum levels. Check the level frequently as the air in tires does get change.

  5. Take out Excess Baggage From Trunk

  6. I bet you have your 4 bowling balls, your kid's baseball equipment, 2 bags of cement and whatever else in the trunk. Reduce the weight and reduce the amount of gas required to move that weight and the more money you save. Simple!

  7. Keep Your Engine At Top Performance

  8. When was the last time you got a tune up? Enough said!

  9. Take Off The Roof Luggage Rack

  10. Do you use a luggage rack? I personally am not a fan ever since I got a free suitcase from those polite folks who were driving in front of me last week. I guess if you have to, luggage racks can be helpful. But it's probably not cost effective if you drive your luggage racked equip ed car long distances without luggage. You can save significant bucks by removing that luggage rack.

  11. Start Out Slow

  12. Don't floor the pedal each time you start out. Save it for getting on the highway.

  13. Don't Let Your Car Idle After Starting

  14. The new breed of cars do not require the engine to idle for 5 minutes before driving in cold weather.

  15. Consolidate errands

  16. Going to the store, save up your errands and do them at the same time.

  17. Use Cruise Control

  18. Cruise control is the best way to use fuel effectively.

  19. Investigate Alternative fuels

  20. There are a lot of inexpensive systems out there that can give you double and even triple the gas mileage you are getting now. But enough said take a look at the alternatives available in alternative fuels and saving our planet.
